What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, particularly those related to the spine. Chiropractors use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments to promote the body’s natural healing capabilities. The goal of chiropractic care is to realign the spine, improve joint function, reduce pain, and increase overall well-being.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow and promote healing. Acupuncture is believed to help balance the body’s energy, or “qi,” and improve overall health. Acupuncture is often used to treat pain, reduce stress, and improve sleep.
Benefits of Combining Chiropractic and Acupuncture
Combining chiropractic and acupuncture can provide a comprehensive approach to healthcare. The two therapies complement each other by addressing both the structural and energetic aspects of health. Chiropractic adjustments can help to realign the spine and improve joint function, while acupuncture can help to reduce pain, inflammation, and stress.
Some of the benefits of combining chiropractic and acupuncture include:
- Reduced pain
- Improved range of motion
- Decreased inflammation
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Improved sleep
- Enhanced overall well-being
TENS Unit Precautions
If you are using a TENS unit for pain relief, it is important to avoid placing the electrodes over the heart area. This can interfere with the heart’s electrical signals and may cause irregular heartbeat.
Soreness After Adjustment
It is common to experience some soreness after a chiropractic adjustment. This is usually due to the muscles and tissues adjusting to the new alignment. The soreness should subside within a few days.
What to Do if You Feel Sore After an Adjustment
- Apply ice to the affected area for 10-20 minutes at a time, several times a day.
- Take over-the-counter pain medication as directed by your primary physician.
- Do some gentle stretching or exercises to help loosen up the muscles.
- If the soreness does not improve after a few days, or if you experience any other symptoms, please call or text our office at any time at (956) 335-2972.
Exercising After an Adjustment
It is important to listen to your body and avoid strenuous exercise immediately after an adjustment. However, gentle movement and stretching can be helpful in promoting healing and reducing soreness.
Stretch Exercises to Relieve Muscle Tension
Here are a few simple stretches that can help to relieve muscle tension:
Limitations may vary depending on everyone. These are generally helpful exercises.
- Neck stretch: Gently tilt your head to the side, bringing your ear towards your shoulder. Hold for 15-30 seconds and repeat on the other side.
- Shoulder stretch: Reach one arm across your body and hold it with your other hand. Gently pull the arm towards your body until you feel a stretch in the shoulder. Hold for 15-30 seconds and repeat on the other side.
- Back stretch: Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Gently rotate your knees from side to side, keeping your shoulders flat on the floor. Hold for 15-30 seconds on each side.
Importance of Posture
Good posture is essential for maintaining a healthy spine and preventing pain. Be mindful of your posture throughout the day, whether you are sitting, standing, or walking.
Importance of Following Up with Chiropractic Visits
Regular chiropractic visits can help to maintain spinal alignment, prevent pain, and improve overall health. It is important to follow your chiropractor’s recommendations for follow-up care.
